McLaren has revealed the W1 – its new flagship hypercar and the spiritual successor to the iconic F1. The name references the company's Woking headquarters and its founding vision of building the world's finest driver's car.
The Powertrain
A 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 900 horsepower, supplemented by a hybrid system adding a further 342 horsepower for a total of 1,242 horsepower. The entire system has been designed around driver engagement – this is not simply about maximum numbers, but maximum connection between driver and machine.
The W1 weighs 1,399kg dry, making its power-to-weight ratio quite extraordinary. McLaren claims a lap time of 6 minutes 47 seconds around the Nürburgring Nordschleife – faster than any production McLaren has ever managed.
