The electric performance car segment has become fiercely competitive in recent years, and nowhere is that competition more vivid than in a straight drag race between the two finest examples the segment has to offer.

The Contestants

In the near corner: the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, producing 1,108 horsepower in Overboost with Launch Control engaged. In the far corner: the Tesla Model S Plaid, with its tri-motor setup and 1,020 horsepower.

The Race

Over the quarter mile, the Taycan Turbo GT edges the Plaid by 0.1 seconds – a margin that feels enormous in the context of these cars. The Porsche records a 9.5-second quarter mile, putting it among the fastest production vehicles ever tested at a drag strip.

But the numbers only tell part of the story. The Taycan provides a driving experience that is fundamentally more rewarding – more connected, more precise, more like a proper sports car that happens to be electric.
